Crop Insurance

Crop Insurance is available for container and field grown plants and trees; the policy begins on June 1 and ends on May 30.

Coverage includes the perils of adverse weather (wind, hail, flood, and freeze) and fire. Insects and disease are covered if there is no known effective control measure.

Various coverage levels are available from catastrophic coverage all the way up to 75%. Premiums range from $100 up to $2700 per $100,000 of plant inventory. The value of the plant material is the lesser of your lowest published price or the Government Plant Value. Note that container sizes are set by the volume as put forth on the CD and not the grower size. If you need a CD to establish your nursery value or need help in setting up your inventory please give our office a call.

Nursery plants can be separated into 14 types with their own deductibles. Some of these types include deciduous tree, broadleaf shrubs, vines and ground covers and perennials. This option helps if certain types are more susceptible to certain perils.

Values can be increased with a 30-day wait but decreases are not allowed during a policy period. The increase can be up to the limit of the policy. Under reported inventories can reduce the amount of your indemnity payment.
